No masterpiece, but since Netflix released The Queen’s Gambit setting the bar pretty high, I feel like no show will ever be again.
A series, based on the life of the Latina/Tejano pop sensation Selena Quintanilla. We get to follow her through the early years as her father discovers the great talent his daughter has – making it his life mission that everyone knows about her voice as well – a long journey of sacrifices, hard work, and success.
Here we explore her legacy – though she may be long gone, her spirit lives on not only in fashion and beauty line products but also in music that has been inspired by her songs, tribute tracks, barbie dolls, movies, and so much more to celebrate her.
Mostly aimed at the Spanish market, Selena was just in the process of releasing her English album when she got tragically murdered at the age of 23.
The show dives deep into the life of the singer from day one.
It’s a medium-paced story that manages to capture your interest and have you hooked on knowing what’s about to come, fan or no fan of the singer. The show is to be enjoyed by everyone who takes the time to watch it, and I genuinely liked it.
In all its sorrow and her tragic faith, there is so much passion, love, and warmth from her family. The hard work from her parents was inspiring, acknowledging her potential, and doing their utmost for her to succeed.
It’s entertaining with an excelent look at the Quintanilla family. 6/10
